Slavic Languages, Literatures, and Linguistics
Slavic language is an all-encompassing course that emphasizes the Central and Eastern European Slavic languages. Philology, linguistics, dialects, pidgins, literature, and their uses in commerce, science, and technology are all covered. Studying their languages and researching their literature and cultures, students in the Department of Slavic Languages and Literature get a comprehensive familiarity with Russia, Eastern and Central Europe, and the former Soviet Union. The Department provides Russian language classes for a full four years. Several faculty members have combined adjunct positions in this Department and the Russian, East European, and Central Asian Studies program at the Jackson School of International Studies, ensuring tight linkages. A post-master's certificate is the highest level of education available in Slavic languages, literature, and linguistics. However, most students only go as far as the Bachelor's degree. Although students from all over the United States choose to study Slavic languages, literature, and linguistics in general, the state of Virginia produces a disproportionately high number of Bachelor's degree holders in the field.
