Medical/Health Humanities

Undergraduates can take advantage of interdisciplinary education in the Medical Humanities and Health Studies Program, which aims to help them comprehend the complex relationship between health and social factors. Health, medical intervention, illness, and death are topics discussed in humanities classes, and their discussion often leads to philosophical musings. Courses in the social sciences shed light on the political, economic, and cultural factors that shape people's health and access to medical care. Health care education and research are two of the many foci of the campus's many excellent faculty members. Courses of this nature will likely focus on the following areas:

  • Care for patients as an art form and scientific endeavor; Human values and ethics in medical decision making
  • the effects of place, time, and money on biodiversity
  • cultural differences in healthcare provision and conceptions of health
  • International humanitarianism and health care
  • and the role of technology in enhancing humanistic health care
