Kinesiology or Exercise Science
Kinesiology is the scientific study of human movement. It derives from the Ancient Greek words (knsis) for "movement" and -o -loga for "study of."Kinesiology examines physiological, anatomical, biomechanical, pathological, and neuropsychological principles and mechanisms of movement. Applications of kinesiology to human health include biomechanics and orthopaedics; strength and conditioning; sport psychology; motor control; skill acquisition and learning; methods of rehabilitation, such as physical and occupational therapy; and sport and exercise physiology. Measures from motion tracking devices, electrophysiology of muscle and brain activity, numerous means of monitoring physiological function, and a host of other behavioural and cognitive research approaches are all used in studying human and animal motion. Kinesiologists apply the disciplines of Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biophysics, Biomechanics, Biomathematics, Biostatistics, Physiology, Exercise Physiology, Anatomy, Neuroscience, and Nutritional Science to the study of human movement, performance, and function. A bachelor's degree in kinesiology can be excellent preparation for medical school, dental school, physical therapy school, or occupational therapy school.
