Education/Teaching of Individuals with Emotional Disturbances

A course that may help train future educators to plan lessons for children and adults whose emotional health issues interfere with their learning ability. Includes content on recognizing students with emotional disturbances, creating individualized education plans for them, teaching and supervising them, providing counseling as needed, and following any relevant laws and policies. Let's look at some effective interventions that foster positive behavior in students who are struggling emotionally and behaviorally.

  • The freedom to make a selection if you're having trouble deciding, try this three-step process:Present the student with up to three alternatives and have them pick one. Please make sure they are aware of the deadline and wait for a response from them. Finally, make sure they understand the benefits and drawbacks of their decision.
  • Give preview-Set goals for the upcoming lesson after having students reflect on their prior learning.
  • Teaching via mnemonics-To help students better retain information, you can instruct them to draw connections between it and what they already know using this memory aid. For the 7x10 table, students can use the knowledge of how many days there are in a week and how many weeks there are in a month to aid memorization.
  • Difficulty- Adjust the task and make the math problems easier or harder depending on the skill level of your students.
  • Please encourage your students to read the math problems aloud to themselves before attempting to solve them.
  • Work together with your class to develop measurable goals. Coursework should be broken down into manageable chunks.
  • If you want to get something written down, don't bother dictating students to work at their own pace on curriculum-related tasks, such as term papers. Deliver prompt responses to exam questions. Place students as tutors for those who need help with more complex ideas.
  • The time lapse between reading sessions-Time can be adjusted so that a student has approximately five seconds to read a word before the next word is presented.
