Advanced Legal Research Studies
In this course, students will build on the knowledge gained in the introductory Legal Practice Skills course while delving further into the world of legal research. Class study time is devoted primarily to working on research problems. Students usually are expected to complete several tasks for a total quarter grade throughout the quarter. The course teaches students how to analyze problems, research efficiently, and make the most of various legal research databases. Included are electronic resources beyond Westlaw and Lexis, subject-specific and administrative materials, and a history of legislation. This course highly recommends improving your legal research abilities. Students will leave this course with the skills necessary to design effective research strategies, evaluate the credibility of legal information sources, and apply such techniques to their work. In addition, students will spend considerable time in class investigating hypotheticals to develop their research skills and confidence. Ethics in legal research and efficiency are just two real-world scenarios that students will expose.
