Adult and Continuing Education and Teaching

Adult Education Teacher Preparation (AETP) is a program that trains people to instruct in a wide range of contexts, from primary and remedial education to continuing education and programs meant to improve specific job-related knowledge and skills. Educators in the field of adult and continuing education typically instruct adults in a variety of fields. These educators may work in a variety of settings, including secondary schools, libraries, community colleges, and even online, where they teach a variety of academic courses (like those leading up to the GED or college entrance exams) or professional development courses (like those leading up to the training of professionals in specific fields). Courses in cooking, art, and photography are taught by other professionals in the field of adult and continuing education. Teachers of adult education may work with groups of students in a classroom setting or with individual students in private lessons, depending on the nature of the subject being taught. There is a wide variety of places where teachers of adults can find work, from prisons to hospitals to community colleges to night schools to secondary schools to healthcare facilities to continuing education programs.
