JOB INFORMATION
The Chronicle of Higher Education is hiring three summer 2023 reporting interns. The internship runs from Memorial Day to Labor Day; those dates are flexible. The Chronicle is the premier source for news about higher education. We’ve been around since 1966, and more than a million people read us online every month. Click these links to see some of the projects we’ve turned out recently. We’re also an equal-opportunity employer, and one of our top priorities is recruiting and maintaining a diverse staff. As an intern, you’d be a full-time reporter in our D.C. newsroom. Interns work primarily on daily-news coverage and also have opportunities to pursue more ambitious stories and contribute to newsroom projects. Click these links for some examples of our recent interns’ work. Pay is $700 a week before taxes. We plan for our internship to offer a hybrid experience out of our D.C. office. Remote work opportunities are available outside of the DC area for those residing in CA, WA, TX, FL, NY, and NJ. Reach out to our internship coordinator if you have questions about this policy. The internship is not designed for full-time students. Our program typically involves working Monday to Friday during normal business hours. If you're taking just one or two courses, email our internship coordinator, and we can discuss whether our program will work for your schedule. To apply, you’ll need to submit a cover letter, a resume, and five published clips that show us what you're capable of (articles, links to articles, links to multimedia projects, or any other kind of reporting project). Candidates should have some prior experience in a newsroom, be it college or professional. You'll also need to include the email addresses and phone numbers of three references; at least two of them should have edited or supervised your journalism. The deadline to apply is Friday, January 20, 2023 at 5:00 pm EST. Questions? Contact Sarah Brown, news editor and internship coordinator. And thanks for your interest. The Chronicle is proud to be an equal opportunity employer, and we are committed to creating a diverse work environment. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, national origin, genetics, disability, age, or veteran status.
