WRI’s electric mobility works aims to decarbonize the transportation sector through a bottom-up approach. WRI has one of the largest and most qualified electric mobility teams among environmental non-profit organizations in the world. You’ll be part of an organization that has big and bold ambitions to electrify most areas of the transportation sector, starting with shared fleets, such as transit and school buses, to quickly deploy the associated environmental, economic, and health benefits more equitably among community members. Job Highlight: As a Global Electric Mobility Research Intern, you will work with other members of the Electric Mobility team at WRI to help research, document, and publish findings. Generally, you will work with the Electric Mobility team at large and as needed across a range of projects and assignments. Specifically, one of your primary tasks will be to help support research publications on transportation decarbonization in Asia by supporting, as part of a larger, coordinated partnership (NDC Partnership) to support countries in achieving their Paris Climate Accord goals. Through this position, you will communicate both with staff in Washington, DC and with staff across WRI’s international offices. This position is remote and you will have the option to work remotely or in our office in Washington, DC. This position is fully remote. What you will do: Your main duties will include, but not limited to, the following: Participate in research and writing activities on global electric mobility topics. Summarize key findings and relevant insights from e-mobility publications. Assist team members with collecting and organizing transportation and climate data from various sources Conduct research related to climate change and transport in a global context Contribute written and graphic content to publications, reports, papers, and presentations Virtually attend external interviews, meetings, and events (such as Transforming Transportion 2023) and assist with notetaking, planning, and other logistical arrangements In-person attendance optional but encouraged if the intern is based in the DC area. Internship Learning Outcomes: The intern will gain experience in the following areas: Technical research and writing Electric transportation technologies and policy development Partnership development What you will need: Comfortable interning remotely Pursuing a major or minor in urban planning, transportation, clean energy, policy, finance, engineering, international relations, environmental science, or a related field Demonstrated experience in conducting global research and familiarity with reference management software (Zotero, Endnote) strongly preferred Superb and detail-oriented writing skills Excellent editing, research, and oral communication skills Demonstrable previous experience in creating original projects, products, or research activities Demonstrable enthusiasm regarding electric vehicles and climate change Adaptable to rapidly changing priorities and able to manage multiple assignments with varying deadlines and competing demands Fluency in English required Desired Qualifications A master’s degree in transportation planning, urban/city studies, energy systems, transportation or electrical engineering, international development, or a related topic Experience related to electric mobility, transportation planning, energy/grid planning, or another relevant field Fluency or near-fluency in a second language (especially Vietnamese). Compensation The pay range for this internship opportunity is between $16-20/hour, commensurate with qualifications. Length of Contract: This is a full-time, six-month (24-week) internship with flexible start and end dates (estimated December 2022 to May 2023) based on availability and need for projects. A part-time arrangement is possible based on discussion with the project team Location: This is a remote-based internship with the option to work out of the Washington D.C. office once it reopens.
