ABOUT SOLAR THERMAL INSTALLER AND TECHNICIAN CAREERS

Solar energy installers are the boots on the ground in the renewable energy revolution, assisting homeowners, companies, and industry in lowering their energy consumption and expenditures. PV installers, or solar photovoltaic installers, install and maintain solar panels. They connect PV, or solar panels, to the electricity grid and assess the performance of solar-powered systems. Solar thermal installers and specialists set up solar-heated water systems. They install collectors on roofs and plumbing such as pipes, fittings, pumps, and electrical equipment. Solar thermal workers evaluate all associated systems and ensure that pipelines and tanks are properly sealed and secure. Customer service skills are advantageous because solar providers frequently instruct users on how to operate solar equipment. Installers must be agile and balanced, as well as able to lift large equipment, components, and tools. These personnel are at risk of falling and require safety equipment and measures to avoid electrical shocks and burns from hot equipment. PV installer training is available at technical and trade institutions and can span from a few days to a few months. Technical training, associated on-the-job experience, or an associate's degree are often required for solar thermal technicians. Experience as an electrician or in construction may be advantageous.
