Mine Cutting and Channeling Machine Operators
Career Snapshot
Man has fought to extract minerals from the soil since the dawn of time. What was once arduous manual labour is now done by motorised machines.
Machine for mine cutting and channelling Operators labour on the surface of the earth or deep beneath it. They operate and maintain machinery that cuts along the face of mineral deposits to facilitate removal.
Some of these gadgets are the size of train cars, and they, too, run on tracks. Other equipment, which look like large chainsaws, are used to cut away rock near the ore. Some machines use buckets to catch the fragmented materials. Some are equipped with drills.
The worksite is noisy, dusty, and confined, whether in underground mines or topside strip mines and quarries. Higher education is not required for employment in this sector. On-the-job training is provided, maybe through apprenticeships. However, due to increased automation, the job prospects for this profession is bleak.
While mining is significantly less dangerous than it once was, miners frequently encounter risk and discomfort that many people would find intolerable. However, without their effort, we would lack many of the commodities that are essential to our economy and daily life.
