ABOUT MEETING, CONVENTION, OR EVENT PLANNER CAREERS

Do you enjoy organising events, from parties to conferences? If you have an eye for detail and are willing to work under pressure, you might want to seek a career as a meeting and convention planner.

Some meeting and convention planners work for companies that provide event planning services. They could also be a division of a larger organisation that performs public relations or image consulting, or a tourism agency for a community. They could also work for a large organisation, planning sales and incentive meetings as well as training seminars.

Meeting and convention planners also work as independent contractors, networking their way from event to event and charging a commission or a flat fee. This career has entrance points in the tourism industry, public relations or communications, and administrative assistant employment.

Some states issue certification to meeting professionals who have passed exams and gained experience in the field. It's a job that guarantees last-minute catastrophes and deadline headaches. Some events take years to put on, but just like putting on a performance at a theatre, there is immense satisfaction when the hurdles are met and the event truly comes together.
