Interior Designers
Career Snapshot
Have you ever strolled into a corporate office and marvelled at the interior design? Or have you ever gone to a new restaurant and instantly felt like it was 'your kind of place?' Interior designers are in charge of creating surroundings that elicit emotional and visual responses from individuals.
Interior designers must work within a client's tastes, demands, and budget while planning and decorating the interiors of private residences, workplaces, restaurants, hospitals, hotels, and theatres. This mix of restrictions can be difficult, and interior designers must be persistent, innovative, and open to new ideas and influences, because what's 'in vogue' changes all the time.
Interior designers communicate their vision for a room to employees who implement their ideas by creating plans and specifications for interior construction, lighting, furnishings, and finishes.
Interior designers must be licenced in several states. Most employers demand at least an associate degree in art or design. To advance, though, expect to join a professional design association.
Being an interior designer may be a very fulfilling vocation if you enjoy keeping up with fashion and have the ability to communicate well with both customers and suppliers.
