ABOUT GLAZIER CAREERS

Glass handling necessitates an unusual blend of strength and care. Glaziers must be physically strong in order to operate on their feet, move sheets of glass, and handle window and door frames with ease. They must be extremely gentle since they work with a material that can shatter in a second.

This is also a delicate craft. Glaziers measure the area to be filled before marking the sheet of glass. The glass is then installed and sealed with putty, glue, or other material to make it secure and airtight.

Glaziers may work for a small installation and repair shop or for a manufacturing company that trains them in the installation of a certain glass product. They may also work with other materials like plastic or stone. Glaziers utilise hand and power instruments to precisely hold the glass in position and cut it. Computers can also help with designing and waste reduction.

This is a skilled construction craft that can be learned in a vocational school, an apprenticeship programme, or on the job. The glazier performs a centuries-old craft that requires a steady hand and precise movements. It's a job with visible and transparent results.
