ABOUT FUNDRAISING MANAGER CAREERS

While public speaking ability and strong problem-solving skills are needed for public relations and fundraising managers, outstanding writing skills are also required... to properly articulate a client's goals, engage an audience, and move them in the desired direction. Public relations or PR managers direct the preparation of material targeted at improving their client's public image. They read press releases, fund corporate events, and keep an eye on trends that may effect their client's business. To assist the organization's top leaders, they also manage company publications, compose speeches, and handle other public engagement. Fundraising managers raise the funds required to keep their organisation going. They contact previous donors and seek out to new donors, collect funding for new buildings, and solicit large gifts from affluent individuals. Managers of public relations and fundraising work for public relations businesses, civic and non-profit groups, school districts, and other organisations. They often work in offices during normal business hours, although they may be required to travel to events and attend evening meetings. They may work longer hours to achieve project and event deadlines, and they may manage many events at once. A bachelor's degree in public relations, communications, English, fundraising, or journalism, as well as many years of related work, is typically required for public relations and fundraising managers. A master's degree is also required for some positions.
