Clinical, Counseling, and School Psychologists
Career Snapshot
Psychologists are people who study the human mind and behaviour and aid people who have mental or emotional difficulties. Some specialise in research, while others help businesses and groups manage disputes and operate more efficiently. However, the majority work as clinical psychologists in counselling centres, hospitals, and solo or group offices.
Over 40% of all psychologists are self-employed, which is five times higher than the rate for most other professions. The educational prerequisites are stringent. Many occupations necessitate a doctorate and a state licence.
The work can be emotionally draining, but knowing you've made a positive difference in someone's life, whether it's helping them stop a drug habit, come to terms with the loss of a loved one, or manage with chronic pain or disease, can be extremely rewarding.
