ABOUT AUTOMOTIVE SERVICE TECHNICIAN OR MECHANIC CAREERS

Automotive technicians, like practically every other professional today, must be proficient with computer-based equipment. Cars today are more electronic than ever before. However, an experienced and trained technician can listen to an engine or exhaust system and promptly determine what repairs are required. Major automobile manufacturers and dealers support two-year associate degree programmes at over 100 community colleges across the US.

Programs are also available at high schools and community colleges. Certainly, the better educated you are, the more job chances you will have. However, you'll learn the majority of what you need to know on the job by shadowing an experienced technician. This is a career for men and women who enjoy working on automobiles and don't mind getting their hands filthy. Experienced technicians can work anywhere in the country, and if you want to start your own business, you could wind up owning your own highly profitable garage or gas station.

The important thing to remember is that consumers do not return to a technician because of degrees and programme certificates on the wall. They returned because the technician is outstanding! A job as an automotive technician can be a truly pleasant experience if you're good and enjoy your profession.
