Adult Basic Education, Adult Secondary Education, and English as a Second Language Instructors
Career Snapshot
We are constantly surrounded by signs and printed information. Consider not being able to read. That fear is a reality for far too many Americans. That is why adult literacy teachers are so valuable. They assist those who have never learnt to read in learning to read. They also provide English as a second language instruction.
Those who never completed high school are another group in need. Many job prospects are out of reach for them without a high school education. Remedial education professionals and instructors are available to assist these persons. They assist people in acquiring the skills necessary to obtain a 'high school equivalency degree,' sometimes known as a GED.
They provide classes in English, history, math, science, and geography. Lessons are usually extremely practical. GED instructors and teachers help students prepare for the GED exam. A GED can lead to a better career, higher salary, and a brighter future.
Adult literacy, remedial education, and GED teachers and instructors must be patient. Some people who attend remedial education or literacy programmes have learning difficulties. Many people have been disappointed by previous failures. As a teacher, you must provide both encouragement and education.
Volunteer positions in community centres range from trained volunteers to qualified teachers in public schools or government-funded programmes. While educational qualifications differ by state and programme, one condition is universal: a willingness to assist others improve their lives, become active members of our society, work, and further their education.
